“Ain’t No Mountain(or wall)High Enough”

Sadly for the last four years the leader of the United States has been obsessed with keeping people from crossing our southern border. He has asked for billions of dollars to construct a fence such as the section pictured above. Money has come from many sources, and that has left many designated projects unfunded.

But the coronavirus doesn’t care about walls. It also doesn’t care that a nation has turned towards isolationism or nationalism. And now it has crossed around the planet, proving that we fool ourselves to believe that what happens in another part of the world doesn’t concern us.

May we realize that nothing has changed since the immortal words in 1623 of John Donne.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

  2. He built a fence instead of a wall. Neither would keep them out anyway.
    They desire that much-lauded ‘American Dream’.
    A waste of billions, on a vanity project.

  5. So true. And now more important than ever. Our lives depend on the thoughtfulness of everyone. Wash your hands. Stay home if you are sick.
    You may think you will live for ever but your immune compromised or elderly neighbor/ relative will not.

  13. Read “Sapiens – a brief history of humanity” by Yuval Noah Harari, if you haven’t already. The success of the human race is largely down to co-operation, and I always felt with Brexit that the UK was going against man’s natural desire to co-operate. That’s not to say we don’t have wars of course, but basically as social beings our instincts are to solve problems together.

    What walls have ever worked? Hadrian’s Wall didn’t, ultimately (and the Antonine Wall was given up on even more quickly); the Berlin Wall came down…
