I have mentioned before that since I moved to New England I frequently find myself quoting Robert Frost. Today it is with a line from Stopping In Woods On a Snowy Evening as I look out at the first major snowstorm we have had in over a year. This afternoon the snow has mostly stopped and Charlie, my grandson and many neighbors are out with shovels and snowblowers to move the downfall off walks and driveways. The plow which comes by regularly on our main road continues to leave more on the end of our driveway. Frequent sweeps are a mixed blessing. We enjoy a cleared road along with the nuisance of that repeated new snow pushed off into our lot.
I am grateful that it finally really snowed here. We had what turns out to have been the third rainiest January(up from fifth) since 1905 and the damp, gray and mud were affecting my mood. Something about a cover of bright white snow makes everything seem fresh and promising. February isn’t meant, as it was last Saturday, to be 56 degree weather. Snow comes to remind us that it really is still winter.
I hope that my friends in the heat of the Southern Hemisphere can enjoy watching the little video of snow fall.
Frequent snow sweeps must make for an aggravating day.
May I suggest that you buy a tank to clear the way! 😀

The storm missed us altogether! Although the cold weather is back, so at least it feels more like February!

I was craving the blue sky set against the stark white “just snowed” ground. Glad to get it at least once this winter.

I guess Portland got hit with some serious ice a while back. I much prefer snow.

Snow is beautiful, especially in New England. Of course you think about Robert Frost. Have you driven the north/south road, 7A, that goes along the Vermont border? It’s a favorite, as it goes through Arlington (Norman Rockwell) and passes by Frost’s stone home. I thought about how he must have written his poem while looking out into the woods beyond his yard on a snowy evening.

I don’t think we have been that way. We have visited Rockwell’s place in Stockbridge which is wonderful.

I love Rockwell’s home in Stockbridge, and his museum. I highly recommend a summer drive up 7A. You will like Frost’s home.

It’s been similar here – Christmas in particular was ridiculously warm. How on earth anyone can still deny climate change defies me.

I love it in short doses like you just showed- I also love it when it’s away away somewhere else.
The past few days have been up in the 30s ( 32c/89f) yesterday ended with a storm to end all storms – statewide destruction and power loss. For some reason my little area lost no trees or power – five minutes drive away did. The cool change now has us in much warmer clothing!

We haven’t had that much snow in Beetley for a number of years now. I am pleased about that, as the roads do not get cleared properly in villages here, so it makes driving treacherous. I love to look at snow, but prefer it to be in someone else’s country. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

What a beautiful video Elizabeth thank you for sharing that! We don’t get snow in this part of Australia & it was a delight to watch after the heatwaves we’ve had here in the last few weeks!
Blessings, Jennifer

We finally got our first major snow here in central Illinois as well. The weather is finally feeling seasonal.

I was just talking about what to expect in winter in my new city – a bit colder but definitely no snow!
Our days have gotten a little cooler, and it’s been lovely -I note a lot of people with jackets and sweaters on. I wonder if it’s just a habit, the temp drops and the locals think it’s colder. I’m not from the south either but rather I should be “cold as well” as I’m from the north…

Does it snow anywhere there?

Yes it snows about an hour from here, a mountain region but also on the tops of ranges.
And a lot in the South Island.
Not just in winter but often in summer.
We are close to the South Pole, mileage wise. Lots of icy blasts from down there
