


Tomorrow is American Thanksgiving Day, a chance to get together, eat and argue. Political discussions forbidden here this year. We are left with recipe wrangling. Since I am in charge, my opinions rule. Still it is fun to hear opposing ideas of the “right food” for the holiday.
Do you prefer homemade cranberry sauce(no question) or the jellied one in a can which emerges with the lines ringing it?
Should the turkey be stuffed(of course)or left unstuffed. If stuffed, with herb seasoned bread crumbs from Pepperidge Farms(no doubt) or cornbread or oysters?
Should there be petite peas(why ask) or broccoli or French green bean casserole?
Should the potatoes be mashed(how else) or substituted with rice?
Should the pumpkin pie be made from Libby’s canned pumpkin( the only source for the RIGHT recipe) or dolled up with completely unnecessary although Instagram ready extras?
Does it matter that I am alone in loving mincemeat pie? Absolutely not, one coming right up.

I am quietly pleased that we do not have this holiday in England. It is far too close to Christmas. But because I value my American blogging friends, I will do a celebratory post tomorrow.

I agree that it too close to Christmas. Here they even seem to merge Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas into one endless “opportunity “ to spend money few have.

I like any kind of cranberry sauce. I prefer whole berries, Bob likes the jellied variety, so I often get both. The best part of the meal to me is the dressing, whether it came out of the bird, or cooked separately, and sweet potatoes next. Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy are the sides to me. 🙂

Since Charlie is from the South I used to try to make everyone(including the vegetarians) happy. This post was my “manifesto” for this year. LOL

I made a cranberry mine pie for tomorrow. We have already eaten the pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake.

Cranberry mince sounds wonderful. I laugh that my grandson loves my pumpkin pie and asked for the recipe. I guess I will have to buy him a can of Libby’s next time.

I like turkey and mashed potatoes, but many of the traditional Thanksgiving foods don’t appeal to me. That includes stuffing, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce.
I’m with you on the no politics rule. Why start trouble on Thanksgiving?

Because my retired Air Force step son was here I did have a chance to get his take on things. He is very cerebral and unemotional so I really appreciate what he thought. An unusual exception to my rule!

I forgot to mention giblet gravy. Do you make that? My grandmother taught my mother who insisted I master the art before I had my own family.

My mother was never a cook, and I have inherited those genes. We had a maid, and she made the giblet gravy. So yummy!
