My daughter said (almost) the same thing when they bought a new couch (not a new dog, you notice). Mr Bones has done very well by learning that when the cover is on the couch he is allowed up (in the evenings, watching TV) but not when the sofa isn’t covered.

I have decided to forgo the purchase of a new couch for the time being. My late mother in law had plastic covers over all her furniture, but no dogs.
